Dr Karen Martyn, Governance Advisor
Karen Martyn moved to NZ from Southern California in 1989, making it one of the best decisions of her life. She worked in human resources until her board interactions convinced her to study governance to find better ways for group decision-making. Since 1998, Karen has trained thousands of directors in NZ and other Commonwealth countries. After requests from directors and management, she researched and developed tools and methodologies for directors to improve their satisfaction with board processes and papers. Karen has developed useful tools (Resolutions Register, Chair’s Toolkit) and techniques (decision-making methods, cognitive bias awareness) to help support boards’ needs. Passionate about helping SME directors, Karen edited and contributed to Corporate Governance: A Practical Handbook (2016, CCH). Karen is a popular presenter with an engaging style.
