Whistleblowing

The long-awaited Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022 came into force on 1 July 2022, repealing and replacing the Protected Disclosures Act 2000.

This webinar will help ensure that you and your clients understand the key changes to New Zealand’s whistleblowing legislation, including:

• the extended definition of “serious wrongdoing”;
• the enhanced ability to report serious wrongdoing; and
• the introduction of a new ground of personal grievance.

Privacy

Privacy issues in employment are many and varied. We will consider issues such as the following:

• What personal information an employer is and is not entitled to collect from its employees;
• How to uphold employee privacy obligations (for example, around the use and disclosure of personal information) with reference to the Information Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 2020;
• Protecting the privacy of job applicants; and
• The extent to which an employer can undertake surveillance of its employees.
