Privacy Law – advising business clients 2020

Description

Privacy law obligations permeate every aspect of a business’ operations. Given the huge proportion of New Zealand businesses that trade on the internet, as lawyers we need to be aware of the obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’) when our clients are selling to customers in the EU, as well as the new requirements of NZ’s own Privacy Act 2020 which comes into force later this year.
This webinar will discuss the key requirements of the GDPR and compare them to those of NZ’s new Privacy Act 2020. In particular, the following topics will be covered:

  • When will a NZ business come within the scope of the GDPR?
  • When is consent needed to process personal data?
  • How do you deal with data breaches?
  • How to be compliant when dealing with overseas third parties who will have access to personal data?
  • What information should go in a Privacy Policy?
  • What rights do individual customers have?

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand the key requirements of the GDPR and the new NZ Privacy Act 2020;
  • Learn practical ways lawyers can add value by advising on their clients’ privacy law obligations, for example reviewing Terms of Trade and contracts with third parties, drafting a Privacy Policy, advising on opt-in consent, and how to deal with data breaches and requests for access to personal information.

SUITED TO

  • Any lawyer advising business clients who have customers in the EU.
