Insurance Law from a Commercial Law Perspective - 25 June 2019 (On Demand)

For New Practitioners and Practitioners New to Insurance and Commercial Law

As a new practitioner or practitioner new to commercial law, clients will often ask for guidance on their insurance documentation, specifically when entering into commercial contracts. Insurance is a fundamental commercial and economic tool in risk transfer. Being aware of, and appreciating, the scope of your clients’ insurance coverage, is an important aspect of a commercial practitioner’s arsenal of tools, especially when reviewing or drafting the liability provisions of commercial contracts.

This webinar will look at:

  • the legislative insurance framework, including the Ministry’s review and reform of insurance law in New Zealand;
  • the principles of insurance law;
  • the commercial insurance aspects common in commercial transactions; and
  • how insurance claims are considered by insurance providers.

A foundational understanding on New Zealand’s insurance law and its impacts on commercial law. Presenters will consider typical commercial clauses, defence of claims and common points of dispute. An overview on the Ministry’s review and reform of insurance law in New Zealand.
